Health Resource Center

Imagine a comprehensive health education center built especially for you. Faith Regional’s Health Resource Center was designed to help you become better informed about important health matters and to provide tools to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The center features many health education services about health matters relevant to you and your family. The services are complimentary and the resources are abundant. Stop by for a visit today!

Our goal is to provide education and services to the community that promote health, wellness and disease prevention. Services provided by the Health Resource Center include:

Faith Regional Health Services' Health Resource Center is a reality due to the vision of creating a healthcare service that will benefit our community. We view health as holistic -- affecting the social, physical, mental and spiritual health of the individual.

Our Location

The Health Resource Center is located in the first floor of the Faith Regional Medical Offices West/Carson Cancer Center building.

Hours

The Center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Stop in and explore the many resources available.

Appearance Center

The Appearance Center is a relaxing place where women who are experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment can select wigs, hats or scarves. Women are encouraged to browse the large section of wigs and appearance products that are courtesy of Faith Regional Health Services and the American Cancer Society.


Resource Library

The Health Resource Center features an extensive collection of books, videos and print information on today’s important health topics. There are also three computers with Internet access and specialized health information databases that can provide in-depth research in a variety of other health areas.
Visitors are invited to relax and explore the vast health information resources available while also enjoying a refreshment from the coffee/cappuccino bar.

Classes & Events

“Healthy U” classes feature monthly health-related seminars presented by physicians and other healthcare professionals. These classes provide the perfect opportunity for you to become informed about important health topics and have your questions answered by knowledgeable professionals. Self-Help and Support Groups

As a service to our community, the Health Resource Center at Faith Regional Health Services continually updates a list of support groups and education classes, both locally and nationally, to help people get the health care they need, quickly and easily. Health Trek 2009: April 13 - May 24

Please join us for Health Trek’s 15th year of promoting healthier lifestyles! This friendly team
competition is open to all businesses, organizations and individuals in the Norfolk area.
Participants enroll as teams and earn points for exercising and other healthy lifestyle choices. It’s
fun, it’s easy and a great way to get in shape for summer with the encouragement of your team!

How to Register:

Gather your 3, 4 or 5 member teams and complete the registration form.

Return the completed form
along with your team’s FULL entry fee to the Health Resource Center (located in the Medical Offices West/ Carson Cancer Center building, 110 N. 29th St., on the ground floor just inside the front entrance of the building) between 8:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Cost is $10.00 per person and MUST be received by April 10th!

Weekly Point Standings for 2009

How it works:

Points are assigned to various activities, depending on the level of intensity and length of time. Team members track their
daily points and submit their weekly total to their team captain. The captain then submits the points each Monday to
Health Trek by email, fax or phone. The team standings are then distributed each week by email.

Participants Received:

  • Health Trek t-shirt (Size options: S to 3XL)
  • All participants were eligible to win one of MANY randomly drawn gift cards at the conclusion of Health Trek valued between $10-$50.
  • Weekly team standings to track team progress.
  • Sun Safety Seminar —The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that nearly 1 in 5 Americans will develop
    some type of skin cancer in their lifetime. Please join Greg Moser, Health Educator with the Elkhorn Logan
    Valley Public Health Department, to learn about the different types of skin cancer and the importance of protecting
    your skin from the sun’s damaging rays. Practical tips that you can take to protect yourself and your children from
    skin damage will be discussed and the Health Department’s “Derma Scan” will be available so attendees can
    individually view the skin damage present on their face. This seminar will be offered on 5/8/09 from 12:00pm to
    1:00pm and on 5/14/09 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Hurry, space is limited! - The first 120 participants who register
    for each date/time will be accepted! Each person who participates in this optional seminar will receive 10
    individual points.
  • Skyview Lake Poker Walk — We will kick Health Trek off with a Poker walk on 4/16/09 at Skyview Lake between
    5:30pm—7:00pm. Bring your team members and show your support for one another by getting together for a
    group walk. All Health Trek members who choose to participate will receive 10 points for participating in the
    event in addition to the points earned for the exercise. PLUS, don’t forget to add in points for walking with your
    family, friends and/or team members! Prizes will be awarded for top hands and we will also draw for some
    random prizes from everyone who participates...regardless of your poker hand.
  • Optional trivia questions to be completed by your team for extra points and interaction.
  • Health Trek trophy and prize to the top 3-member, 4-member and 5-member teams.
  • The encouragement of your team will help you to stay motivated and challenge you to reach your personal fitness
    goals.
