Alec Akbarov, M.D., Ph.D.
Medical Director of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
Dr. Alec Akbarov received his Medical Degree from the Andizhan State Medical Institute in Andizhan, Uzbekistan and went on to do a residency in General and Thoracic Surgery at the Institute of Clinical Oncology in Moscow, Russia.
After coming to the United States in 1992, Dr. Akbarov completed a surgical research fellowship at VA Medical Center in Washington, D.C.. He then completed General Surgery Residency at St. Agnes Healthcare in Baltimore, Maryland. Before coming to Faith Regional, Dr. Akbarov completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
As primary surgeon, Dr. Akbarov performs a full spectrum of cardiothoracic surgery including on and off pump CABGs and valve procedures. Also, he has experience in all areas of general thoracic surgery including minimally invasive video assisted thoracoscopic techiniques, esophageal and lung surgeries.
