Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics

Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics at Faith Regional consists of a Pulmonary Function lab and a Cardiac Diagnostic lab. Pulmonary functions are performed by a registered respiratory therapist/certified pulmonary function technologist. Cardiac Diagnostics are performed and assisted by a registered nurse/respiratory therapist. These cardiac diagnostic procedures include a variety of treadmill and pharmacological stress tests, such as dobutamine stress echo, treadmill stress echo, transesophageal echo, stress cardiolyte and thallium testing. Other cardiac procedures include ECG, holter and event monitoring.

Respiratory Therapy

Our respiratory therapists are ACLS, PALS and NRP certified and assist physicians in the treatment and management of patients with cardiac and pulmonary disorders. These patients range from premature infants to the elderly. The Respiratory Therapy department is cross-trained with Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and performs a variety of services such as:

  • Aerosol Medication Therapy
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • EEG
  • Event Monitoring
  • Holter Monitoring
  • Oxygen Administration and Monitoring
  • Tracheostomy and TT02 Care
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Treadmill and Pharmacological Stress Testing

Sleep Center

Sleep disorders make it hard for people to sleep soundly at night, or stay awake during the day. At our sleep disorders center, patients discuss sleep habits, lifestyles and health histories. A sleep study involves an overnight stay in a specially decorated room, much like one's own home, with devices attached to the patient to record sleeping patterns, breathing, oxygen levels, etc. , and a heart monitor to detect problems during sleep. Common sleep disorders include:

Sleep Apnea: when a person stops and then starts breathing again many times throughout the night.

Narcolepsy: when a person falls asleep suddenly many times a day.

Chronic Insomnia: when a person has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep night after night.

Restless Leg Syndrome: people experience "crawling" sensations in their legs whenever they lie down to sleep.

Periodic Limb Movement Disorder: patients' legs or arms jerk repeatedly during sleep.

Sleepwalking.
