Faith Regional to Implement a
Hospitalist Program

In August, Faith Regional will implement its first ever Hospitalist Program. This program is one of the fastest growing sub-specialty programs in the United States.

“The idea of a Hospitalist Program came to me about three years ago,” said Dr. Tim Davy, VP of Medical Affairs. “I saw other Hospitalist programs growing rapidly across the county and I felt that our qualified medical staff could benefit from this service.”

A Hospitalist is an adult medicine physician (i.e. internist) who is specifically trained to care for very ill patients in an in-patient setting. It is a voluntary service that is available to Faith Regional’s medical staff to care for their patients when they require hospitalization. Faith Regional’s Hospitalist Program will be directed and staffed by four adult medicine physicians.

“I was very hesitant initially as I have always loved my work in the Emergency Department for the past 10 years,” said Dr. Metcalf. “Dr. Davy and I traveled to Lincoln to meet with Dr. Brian Bossard who is an established program director for his own Hospital Medicine service in three Lincoln hospitals. Dr. Bossard is well acquainted with Norfolk’s medical community and was convinced that a hospital medicine service would be very successful and would provide a scope of service useful for both the hospital and the patients within our referral area.”

The program is being implemented to broaden the scope of service to the medical staff of Faith Regional and to our referring physicians. This service will be available 24/7. The physicians are trained to care for a wide range of medical conditions, from simple pneumonia to severe infections requiring care in an intensive care unit.
