Digital Mammography now available at Faith Regional
Faith Regional has added Selenia™ digital mammography from Hologic® to the comprehensive diagnostic services. Selenia incorporates revolutionary imaging technology that provides incredibly sharp images. Installation is scheduled in September, making mammograms digital starting late September.
“With today’s busy lifestyles, we are constantly looking for ways to serve our customers more efficiently,” said LeAnne Brodersen, manager of Radiology Services at Faith Regional. “The Selenia will allow us to consistently create an exceptionally sharp digital image with better contrast. Early detection of breast cancer means faster intervention and dramatically improved survival rate.”
From the patient’s point of view, a digital mammogram is like traditional film screen mammography. Both use x-ray to generate images of the breast. However, instead of using film to capture and record the image, a digital mammogram uses a special detector to capture and convert x-ray energy into a digital image. The resulting digital images are immediately available to the radiologist for diagnosis.
“Digital mammography definitely has advantages,” said Dr. Brian Vonk, Board Certified Radiologist at Faith Regional. “It’s quicker, offering a woman the convenience of having her mammogram without repeated imaging and exposure to radiation. For the radiologist, digital mammograms provide more comprehensive visibility. This translates into a win-win situation for the patient.”
