The Faith Regional Health Resource Center offers monthly “Healthy U” classes to become better informed about health matters which are important to you. Classes are free or for a nominal fee to ensure everyone is able to attend.

Pre-Diabetes Class
Cost: FREE -Did you know it is estimated that nearly 40% of adults have pre-diabetes? Join us to discuss pre-diabetes and lifestyle changes you can make to help prevent diabetes and other health problems. Topics covered will include healthy weight, nutrition, cholesterol, high blood pressure and glucose levels. Instructed by Renae Kauth, RD, CDE, LMNT.

Stay Safe and Sober Day
Cost: FREE -Join Healthy Directions and the Nebraska Department of Transportation to see and participate in activities that demonstrate how substance abuse and unsafe driving can affect you and those you love. Attractions include seatbelt convincer, rollover demonstrator, driving simulator, fatal vision goggles and seatbelt survivor car.

Prostate Screening Event
Cost: FREE - According to the American Cancer Society, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer as some point in their lives. Faith Regional's Carson Cancer Center is helping to tackle prostate cancer by providing a free prostate cancer screening including a PSA and an exam. Monday night football will be on the big screen plus plenty of tailgate food! Registration required - please call (402) 644-7348.

Tai Chi - 12 week series
Cost: $2 per session - Would you like to enhance balance, reduce stress and increase strength? ANYONE can perform Tai Chi and it is especially beneficial for seniors or those who need to enhance balance. Classes are held Mondays and Wednesdays for twelve weeks (24 total sessions) and are $2 per class ($48 total). Instructed by certified Tai Chi instructors.

Look Good, Feel Better Program
Cost: FREE - An American Cancer Society program for women undergoing cancer treatment. Participants will learn about makeup techniques, skin care, nail care and options related to hair loss such as wigs, turbans and scarves. Each participant will receive a FREE cosmetics kit for use during and after the workshop.

"Emotion Coaching" for Parents of Young Children
Cost: FREE - This class is for parents and grandparents of children aged 2 to 8 years. Have you ever been challenged by outbursts or meltdowns from your children? Do you worry about their ability to handle life's challenges? If so, then this class is for you! Through emotion coaching you will learn to relate more closely with your child so you can effectively teach appropriate behavior and how to cope with the ups and downs of daily life. Learn what kids need so you can equip them for success! Instructed by Susan Strahm with Northeast Early Childhood Professional Development Partnerships.

Peripheral Artery Disease
Cost: FREE - Do you have cramping, pain or tiredness in the leg or hip muscles while walking or climbing stairs? If so, then you may be among the 8 million Americans who have PAD. Join us in learning about this condition and about available treatment options including endovascular intervention. Presented by Dr. Joseph McClain, Cardiothoracic Surgeon with Faith Regional's Cardiovascular Institute.

Positive Discipline - Parents 1, 2, 3, 4 Education Series
Cost: $15 - An educational series for parents, grandparents and caregivers of children ages 1 to 5. Learn about strengthening the bonds you have with your children and how choices, routines & positive interactions can increase your child’s school readiness and self-control. Must commit to all 3 sessions. Facilitated by Kari Pfeil. Book and refreshments included.

Cervical Cancer and the HPV Vaccination
Cost: FREE - Nearly 10,000 women in the United States are newly diagnosed with cervical cancer each year. The most common cause of cervical cancer is the human papillomavirus (HPV). Join Dr. Mark Davis with Midlands OB/GYN to learn about cervical cancer, prevention methods and the HPV vaccination for preteen girls and young women. Information will be provided on the effectiveness of the vaccine, eligibility to receive it and more so you can decide if it is right for yourself and/or your family.

Freedom From Smoking

Cost: $150 - This program emphasizes that quitting smoking and maintaining abstinence is a learning process where individuals must learn to manage nicotine addiction, unlearn automatic behaviors of smoking and substitute healthy alternatives. Sponsored by the American Lung Association and facilitated by Faith Regional employees. Call (402) 644-7348 for available dates and times.

As a service to our community, the Health Resource Center at Faith Regional Health Services continually updates a list of support groups and education classes, both locally and nationally, to help people get the health care they need, quickly and easily. Cancer Support Group
Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Fiday each month. Meetings are held at 12:00 p.m. in the Madison Room on West Campus. For more information contact Donna at (402) 371-6563. Please call to verify, information subject to change without notice.
